What was this exhibition exploring?
This was a small exhibition, focusing on exploration of Space and language. Connecting the two worlds of the past and the present and the inevitable future where these words will no longer exist. My aim with this exhibition was to explore the overwhelming act of thinking; all these thoughts from our past, should we hold onto them as much as we do? The process was as follows; I spent three days writing across this entire wall, the way I felt, my experiences, the space in the room, etc. I then let the words breathe, and eventually, after the exhibition I painted over them. Now these words still lay there underneath the white paint. I like that Idea of connecting the materials I use with the emotional and conceptual meaning. I used multiple pencils and a knife as a sharpener. The pencil, the wall and the ladder was my guide.
There were Three Crucial Steps to this process. First was Writing. I wanted to document the intensity of this writing process. It was often dull, painful for my wrists and I was either crammed on the floor or high above the ground. The Second Step was the Exhibition itself. This was liberating. I was able to share these words and patterns with the public, and seeing their reaction to the scale of this work only sparked my passion for this project. The Third step was covering up. In a strange way, this was very liberating. I was able to cover up and leave everything I created behind. I enjoy creating work that will eventually decay or be destroyed. It is a shame to not keep a piece of the wall, but this wall never belonged to me.
Process of creating this Wall
Late nights spent writing for 3 days.
Day time writing…
Covering up
This was the ending of this Project. Writing has always been a passion of mine…….I hope I can write on more walls soon….
